Botanical Garden

Founded in 1771, the country’s oldest botanical gardens are a real ‘green island’ in Budapest’s concrete jungle. Over 6,000 plant species in the 3.1-hectare park and the greenhouses*, of a total area of some 2,000 sq m, help visitors become aware of the meaning of biodiversity. The Garden is under partial reconstruction in the course of 2009- 2010.

Budapest Funfair

Children's railway

It races a 12-km winding path through the Buda Hills between Széchenyi Hill and Hűvösvölgy. With the exception of the engine driver, all the functions are carried out by 10–14-year-old schoolchildren.

Family Cycles

Pleasant relaxation and active entertainment on the Margaret Island. Bringóhintó (pedalled coach-like vehicle), bicycles, roller skates and children’s toys are for hire, which are excellent to explore and tour the island, make family programmes, and do sports.

Hospital in the rock. Secret Military Hospital and Nuclear Bunker beneath the Buda Castle.

The tour includes parts that were built and extensively used during the Second World War and the siege of Budapest. Thousands of people, soldiers and civilians alike were treated here. This was the last hospital in operation that time in the city. During the cold war the hospital was extended and upgraded to a nuclear bunker and was classified as “Top Secret” under the codename LOSK 0101/1. It was also used during the 1956 revolution and later as a civilian defence installation. Tours depart on the hour. Last group departs at 18:00. The price includes the mandatory tourguide. A guide in Hungarian and English is always available. Audioguides available for other languages.

Margaret Island Athletics Centre

The facility offers a 400-metre synthetic running track and the 5,350m running route around the Margaret Island to runners and joggers. Amateur athletes can also use a football pitch, street ball and clay tennis courts.

Pál-völgy Cave

Although it earned fame with its stalactites, high gorge-like corridors, large differences in level and ball-like shapes eroded by hot springs are more typical. The new 500-meter long visitors’ route holds plenty of excitement. The temperature is about 11 degrees throughout the year.

Pálvölgyi-Mátyáshegyi cave system

If you are prepared for adventure and equipped with stamina, you will enjoy climbing and crawling through narrow passages during the 2.5-3 hour long tour in the 20-kilometre long Pálvölgyi-Mátyáshegyi cave system. This highly protected site is part of the Buda Thermal Karst area, to be declared part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

Palace of Wonders and House of Future

Beside musical, theatrical and family programs two interactive academic exhibitions can be found in the Millenary cultural centre. Szemlő-hegy Cave

Visitors may admire pisolite fallouts and gypsum crystals, both considered a rarity in Europe, along the close to 300-meter long route. The air is suitable for the treatment of people who suffer from asthma or other respiratory diseases.

Tropicarium

8 large sharks, rays that you can stroke, squirrel monkeys, colourful snakes, exotic birds, alligators, unusual reptiles, antrhopods and hundred of freshwater and sea fish can be seen in our tropical zoo. Shark feeding takes place every Thursday from 3 o’clock. The district of Nagytétény also features the Statue Park, the Dreamcars Collection and the Nagytétény Castle Museum. Zoo

The Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden was founded in 1866, and it is one of the oldest amongst all Zoos. Most of its buildings are monuments. In this historical surrounding, more than 700 animal species, as well as a great variety of plants await the visitors.

Zwack unicum museum and heritage Visitors’ centre

The museum offers visitors a fascinating overview of 200 years of the history of Hungary, of the Zwack family and of Unicum, Hungary’s national drink, with display cabinets showing memorabilia from the time of Emperor Joseph II up until the Space age and a documentary film. The Museum also houses one of Europe’s largest collections of miniature bottles.
